Aim
To raise the level of strings performance and promote music knowledge and education among teenagers and the youth of Hong Kong by organizing the Hong Kong Bauhinia Cup Strings Competition 2012, with Preliminary and Final rounds, Music Talks, and performances of the top Open Class prize winners  with the Hong Kong Southern District Orchestra.

Rules and regulations
1. Citizens born on or after 1ST January 1987 regardless of nationality, are welcome to apply for the Strings Competition.
2. Once the registration fee is paid , no refund, alteration of competing instrument group, classes, repertoire piece or contestant is allowed. Contestants of ensembles should present all the individual application forms together at the time of  application.
3. Contestants can choose more than one kind of stringed instruments group and any one class of duet and quartet in this competition. Contestants can apply for only one class and one piece in each instrument group. Photocopied forms are permitted.
4. Deadline for application is 8th September 2012. The Competition Committee will confirm the contestant’s personal information and details of the Preliminaries before 20th September 2012 with tickets for music talk. If the confirmation is still not yet received by 24th September 2012, please telephone to enquire before 26th September 2012.
5. Photocopies of scores are not allowed. Most of the pieces can be found in the examination scores of the London College of Music (LCM) and the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM). Please refer to our website : www.hksdorchestra.com  and address enquiries to our Competition Committee.
6. The day, time and order of contestants in the competition are decided by our Competition Committee. Should there be too few applicants in any particular group, the Committee reserves the right to hold the preliminary competition and not the final, and the Committee’s decision will be final. Similarly , should there be larger numbers of candidates in any group, the number of silver and bronze awards may be increased accordingly.
The Competition Committee reserves the right to interpret and alter the schedule. No objection to the marks, results and awards decided by the panel judges will be permitted.
7. Contestants must bring along their original Hong Kong Identity Document or their latest student card with a photograph and the ‘Letter of Notification’ when joining the competition.
8. Contestants must observe the rules and regulations of the competition
9. Adjudicators reserve the right to terminate contestants’ performance if the performance is enough for the panel to come up with a score. There is no need to repeat except for D.C. or D.S. in the piece.
10. Contestants should bring along their own musical instruments for the competition. Piano will be provided in the competition. Contestants must arrange their own accompaniment (there is no age limit on accompanying musicians). Judges will award no points for competitors without piano accompaniment.
11. Successful contestants in the first round should prepare to attend the final round on 11th November 2012.  The repertoire should be the same as for the preliminaries. The competition committee will announce the result of the competition for each items and present the prizes afterwards.  For details, please refer to the Letter of Notification for the final round.
12. Only the Gold Award Winners of the Open group in violin , viola and cello will be invited to perform with the Hong Kong Southern District Orchestra at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui, on 6th January 2013, including two rehearsals with the Hong Kong Southern District Orchestra . Failure to attend the rehearsals may result in cancellation of the performance at the concert.

Certificate and token for all of the winners of Ensemble
   
Remarks : Teachers of the winners of Champion, First Runner-ups and Second Runner-ups will be presented with a Certificate of Acknowledgement.
Results of the competition will be posted on our website :www.hksdorchestra.com within three days of the Final.
